Men talk about them. Women worry about them. Large sums of money are spent trying to change them. Before meeting Dawne, I was a typical young man, in that I had a stated preference for women with big boobs. My girlfriends were usually built to prove that preference. The tide began to turn with one particular young lady who, in a fit of passion, mashed my face deeply into her ample cleavage, and nearly suffocated me. She honestly thought my writhing and gasping was an expression of passion and delight. It wasn’t until I started thumping her rather forcefully in the ribs that she released me. Thus ended my personal love affair with big boobs.

Dawne is a small breasted woman. When I met her, she sported a perky A cup, and 4 pregnancies later has grown to a small B. I would also like to note that Dawne is a petite woman, standing a scant 5 feet 2 inches tall, and would look ridiculous with anything larger under her blouse. Having experienced both large and small, I have to say that I prefer small, and not just for reasons pertaining to the availability of oxygen. They are, simply put, more appealing to the eye. A smaller chest allows me to appreciate Dawne in her entirety, without having to peer over the shoulder of the mountain, so to speak. But that’s just me, right?

Several years ago I had occasion to give a couple of acquaintances a lift in my car. As we were crawling through the city traffic, a well endowed young woman trotted across the street ahead of us, catching my passengers’ attention. “Whoa!”, (and I quote) “check out those torpedoes!” (Yes, he said “torpedoes”) Amidst the ensuing commentary, ranging from the rude to the crude, I noticed something that piqued my interest. The younger of the two gentlemen, clearly visible in my rear view mirror, had taken a brief look, but for the bulk of the commentary wasn’t even looking at her! It came to me that he was just making noise, following a script that he had been taught. Was it possible that he didn’t actually find the young lady’s endowments attractive?

For the rest of our journey, I kept a quiet eye on my two passengers, watching what actually caught their interest. Here is what I noticed: The larger the breasts, the more noise they made, but the smaller the breasts (to a certain minimum), the longer they would look. And when I say look, I mean stare. This observation applied equally to both passengers, one of whom was in his 40’s, and the other half that.

The size of a woman’s breasts is a subject of intense interest and scrutiny by both genders, in every culture and country the world over. Is, as our culture would have us believe, bigger actually better? Women with large chests complain of back pain and uncomfortable bras. Men ogle women with small to medium sized chests as much as, if not more than their larger sisters, leading me to the conclusion that size really doesn’t matter that much.

What does matter is your concept of sexuality. What is sexy, and what is not? I have seen overweight women who got more dates than their skinny counterparts, and ugly men “score” far more frequently than their better looking competitors. How does this happen? From what I have seen, a person’s “sexiness” has more to do with how they feel about themselves than adherence to any particular physical ideal. This applies to breast size as well.

If a woman is comfortable with her size, she will reflect that in how she presents herself. Men see this, because they are actually looking for a woman, not a set of boobs. More to the point, men want women who are comfortable in their own skin, and have a healthy level of self-esteem. Everything after that is aesthetics and personal preference.

In my misspent youth, there was an oft repeated proverb, “More than a handful is a waste”, and I have found that this sentiment to hold true for men of every age and background (myself included). Some men do naturally prefer big boobs, it’s true, but by and large, most men don’t. They prefer a woman’s chest to fit the woman. Point in fact: most men are actually more interested in the size of the heart behind the chest.
