The DIY Romantic

Like many men, I like to do things myself, so I thought, why not be a DIY Romantic? Hunting around on Instructables.com, I came up with some wonderful ideas that other DIY Romantics have created before me, so allow me to share those links with you today.

Why don’t we start with that perennial classic, the hand made card. This is a fairly simple design, with a romantic twist transforming it into a Kissing Card. Just add a bit of prose on the inside, a heartfelt message of love, and she will be kissing you in no time at all.

And to go with your Kissing Card, why not some chocolates, packaged in a hand crafted Heart Shaped Chocolate Holder?

It goes without saying that you can’t give her cards and chocolates, without a flower or two… How to Fold a Paper Rose, from wikiHow (another great how-to site) continues the hand crafted theme with instructions on creating an origami rose that is simply beautiful.

What’s that you say? The cards, flowers and chocolates have worked their magic, and now you’re ready to pop the question? Stop! Do not take out an advert on the sign board at the next big game! Instead, try making your own Night Billboard, and project your custom message of love in the location of your choice. Perhaps outside her bedroom window? Use your imagination, just respect other people’s spaces (windowless walls are best).

And finally, once she has said yes, you can have her walk down an aisle arched with kites, the arches being heart shaped of course.

Taking the attitude of a DIY Romantic will not only save you tons of cash, but allow you to put a personal touch on every momento of love that you give her. And who knows, if you keep it up, she may not mind so much when you buy her the odd powertool for Christmas ;-)
