10 Romantic Things to Say

When deciding on romantic things to say, please remember that sincerity is of paramount importance. If you don’t mean it, don’t say it! Really! A romantic line spoken without sincerity is just a line. It may be clever, cute, or even heart warming, but it will still be just a line. Spoken with sincerity however, the following romantic things to say will communicate volumes to you lover about the true depth of feeling that you have for him or her.

Having said that, here’s a list of 10 romantic things to say to your sweetheart on any occasion:

  1. I love you/I love you so much. - Before speaking these words, take a moment to really think about how much you love him/her. When that loving feeling rises in your chest, warm and full, gaze into your beloved’s eyes, and say “I love you”. The emotion that you are experiencing will be reflected so powerfully in your eyes that the words will be the palest shadow of the truth.
  2. I could hold you forever. - Best spoken when you you are a) holding them, and b) when you are feeling blissfully contented to be exactly where you are, in their arms.
  3. My wife tells me that this one is old and cliched, but I like it: Give her a dozen roses, saying “I will love you until the last rose dies.” - Make sure that the first 11 roses are real, and the last one is silk.
  4. You are beautiful/gorgeous/handsome – Everybody needs to know that they are desirable. Make sure that your one and only knows it too!
  5. Even death’s shadow cannot darken my love for you – This can be spoken so many different ways, but the essential idea remains constant: My love will transcend even death itself.
  6. You are the only one for me. - Feel it and mean it, and it is one of the most romantic things to say.
  7. You’re amazing. - This can be extremely romantic, when spoken at the right time. Reserve this for times when he or she has overcome some hurdle, such as acing an important interview, or singing on a stage, etc. Use it to re-enforce their feeling of accomplishment and to let them know that you are very proud of them.
  8. This feels so right. - Similar to “I could hold you forever” and “You are beautiful/gorgeous/handsome” in that it is best used in a more everyday context. Holding hands, sitting together on the couch, or grocery shopping together are good times to say this. Of all the romantic things to say, this simple phrase can be the most powerful, because it speaks of forever, without waxing poetic, or coming across as sappy. It injects romance into the most mundane of everyday activities.
  9. They say a picture tells 1,000 words but when I see yours all I see is 3: I…love…you – To be fair, this is a line, but it’s a nice one, especially if you really mean it. Personally, I would reserve this for a time when I was away from her for a time, and talking to her on the phone, but that’s just me.
  10. God was showing off when He created you.- I have to admit that this one is probably one of my all time favourite romantic things to say, but not because it is especially clever. As is, it’s just another line. The reason that I like this one so much is because you can play with it, and fold it into a conversation, making it more natural and true. Consider the following example:
“You know, I’ve been thinking… I think that God is a showoff.” After such an odd statement, your lover is going to want you to clarify such an outrageous claim. You respond something to the effect of, “Well He made you , didn’t He?” or “Have you looked in a mirror lately?” It’s fun and flirty, and most of all, believable.

The most romantic things to say are best folded into a conversation, making them flow naturally, and arrive unexpectedly. Virtually any line, save perhaps the very worst, can be played with and made into a sincere sentiment of love, so don’t be afraid to look for opportunities to tell her how you feel in any conversation. Just remember that you have to feel the words before you say them. If it ain’t true, please don’t lie to him or her, it’s not worth it. If you stick to the truth, the list of romantic things to say is as boundless as your love for that person, and will be just as unique and special.

Hi Val, thanks for stopping by :-)
I deleted the other comment, but not before trying to figure out how to insert a smiley heart, to no avail I’m afraid.

I agree with you, number three is my favorite as well. Unfortunately, both my wife and eldest daughter thought it was old and corny… I guess it just goes to show that you really have to pick according to the intended recipient’s tastes.

      Cheers, Marc
